Eligibility

Candidates may be eligible to participate if they…

  • Have overweight (BMI of 30-60)
  • Are age 30 to 70
  • Are not diabetic nor taking blood sugar medication
  • Regularly wake up between 5:00 am and 8:00 am

This study will test whether intermittent fasting or grazing is the best way to help lower blood sugar levels in adults with extra weight.

 We will also test whether changing when you eat can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and improve health.

  • Grazing (eat throughout the day)

    OR

  • Intermittent fasting:

    • Skip breakfast or
    • Skip dinner (or eat an early dinner)
  • Undergo basic health tests
  • Attend two 24‐hour visits at UAB Hospital in a private room:
    • Can work, watch shows, or do quiet activities
    • Able to choose weekend or weekday visits
  • Not lose any weight (we are trying to find out if there are health benefits to meal timing beyond weight loss)
